Laidy Villamaria-Tully

Abstract works are drawn from the subconscious realm, manifested through intuitive marks, calligraphic lines and fragmented forms.

I Am Not A Landscape

Chance, intuition and process are encountered through incessant engagement with experimentation on materials, applications and media.

Painting and printmaking processes are explored primarily on collagraphs, photopolymer etchings, monoprints and monotype works.

Art making techniques and strategies reflect long held beliefs, paramount is to question cultural and traditional practices anchored in elitist perspective of exclusivity, hierarchies embedded in status quo, disparity and authoritarian actions that debase the human spirit.

Legacy of Dada, Abstract Expressionism and Arte Povera has profound influence on my work, as a contemporary interdisciplinary artist of Asian background, meandering between two cultures.

Graduated BFA majoring in painting at the National Art School in 2020.

Years of printmaking classes under the mentorship of Laura Stark, at Hazelhurst Arts Centre, allowed me to explore ways to merge both medium in my art practice.
