We were delighted to present Flights of Fancy, an exhibition playfully exploring ideas, stories and imaginative suggestions.
Our members showcased their individual interpretations of the theme, using a wide variety of printmaking techniques, with framed works available to view and purchase.

The exhibition included: a collaborative project of unframed works; educational displays showcasing various print techniques and a postcard exchange between local, national, and international artists, some of which can be seen here.

In late May several of our members were onsite talking about their works, the techniques they used to produce their unique pieces and showed tools and equipment they employ.
Catherine Garbutt:
Hand coloured linocut.
Catherine talked about the effects that can be achieved when cutting lino for relief printing using a variety of tools. Her work is especially finely detailed and she also introduced her method of hand colouring to enhance the outcome.
Dior Mahnken:
3D wearable art from monoprinted lightweight papers.
Dior displayed an incredible handmade printed paper dress.
She discussed how the project came together, along with the technical and aesthetic aspects of construction to final outcome.
Jan Schuster-Callus:
Etching.
Jan outlined the process of etching into a metal plate, be it zinc, aluminium or copper, and how images progress from plate to paper.
Julianne Smart:
Mokuhanga, traditional Japanese woodblock printing.
Julianne discussed tools (on show), how she uses a hand-crafted baren to transfer her images to paper and how the Japanese method of printing differs from other forms.
Her work demonstrated the technique fully.
Max Samways:
Collagraphs.
Max described how a collagraph plate is constructed to create tone and depth in printed outcomes that cannot be achieved with other forms of printmaking, demonstrated within his own practice.
